Bright Spot

I often turn the phone ringer off during nap time and today was no exception. Imagine my curiousity when I received a phone message today from a place I had never even heard of. The voice on the other end was that of a pleasant-sounding lady. "Hello, Rebecca, we have a delivery for you and were wondering if you could call us back to set up a convenient time."
Was this a joke? a pre-recorded message? a wrong number?
I listened again.
It sounded legitimate enough.
I listened a third time. A delivery for me? from a florist? from who? why?
I had never heard of such a thing - except for other people.
Still curious (but also excited) I called back.
I set up a time and resisted the urge to ask who it could possibly be from. To me, half the joy of a gift is the surprise.
I came back from the school run as curious as ever.
Inside the packaging was a beautiful note from four beautiful friends from university.
Imagine the smile that I had when I got to open up these lovelies.
Imagine the smile inside when I got to look at them all week.

If you know me, you will know that tulips are among my favourite flower - for many reasons. Something about their simple beauty just whispers "life" "joy" "anticipation."

Double Header

This afternoon G came home with a bruise: he had run into a light post.

Last night he lost his tooth.

It's quite the winning combination.

Space

Remember I mentioned that we had been doing (more) house renovations over the summer and the fall? Well, this week marked an official end to another major milestone!
For those who haven't visited, there was a little door off the side of our kitchen that let to a .... shall we say.... "room?" It was very small, about 2 feet by 8. When we moved in to our house we weren't exactly sure what the space was or had been intended for. We just called it the Scary Room. It was built on a "solid" foundation of railroad ties and______? Rod accidentally whipper-snipped a cat one day when it jumped out from underneath the so-called floor. The walls were made of sheet metal; it was cold in winter and hot in summer; there was no exterior door, and it dripped water and mould. Lovely.
We really weren't sure what we wanted to do with the space, which was a major reason why we had avoided it so long - that and we knew it was going to be a big project.
With the urging, encouraging and help of my dad, Rod and he tore it down and rebuilt it: properly this time. We divided it into some extra storage / pantry for the inside, and a small section with a separate outside entrance for Rod's tools.

I am thrilled with how it turned out! Look at all the space! I'm dreaming of how it can be filled up!
A few of my favourite features are:
-it's existence
-a nook for the upright freezer. That means I have the space where the freezer used to be to have fun with again.
-the cherry trim. It's a pantry...I love my husband's attention to detail.
-the hooks for the backpacks. No more tripping on them at the doorway.
