Isn't That The Truth

Catch Up

Well, it has been a busy last little while, and much has happened in our lives. Our big news, for those who have not yet heard, is that we bought a house. The whole process has been such a miracle and we can really see God's hand in all of it. It has happened rather quickly, so please forgive us if we should have told you in person but didn't. I am still getting over it.
It is in the King's Towne and is a great "starter" house, a 1 1/2 story war home with three bedrooms and even a back yard! It is, in Realtor Speak, a "handy man's dream," "perfect for a visionary," and "a diamond in the rough." In laymen's terms, that means "a real fixer-upper."
So...we found out this past week that since our apartment has been rented we have two weeks to move out (good in that it will save us a month's rent, bad in that it speeds things up even more). We have some renovations - some major, some minor, some cosmetic, some structural - to do at the house before we move in. We have been spending our weekends and some evenings working, trying to get as much done as possible. In God's perfect timing, he has provided a house for us to house-sit for a month in the intermim between our apartment and our (hopefully) completed renovations. It is indeed a busy time, made even busier by adding a very active, very curious six-month old to the mix, and by our ever-present lack of sleep at night, due to the same six-month old.
Personally, I am somewhat struggling with my place in all of this. I feel as though I should be (and want to be) helping out at the house, doing as much as I can. If people are so willing to drive for several hours to help us, surely I should be pulling my own weight. And yet, my role is also to care for Gideon. I have brought him to the house quite a bit, but I am realizing more and more that the dust, the noise, the chemicals, the lack of attention (i.e. being completely ignored), the lack of naps, and the 14+ hour days are hard on him. I am learning that my role may not be to "do" much in the tangible sense of the word. But it is hard.
Having said all that, though, we have been more than blessed with our family and our friends and our community who have been so willing and eager and enthusiastic to help us out, however needed. God is so good!

A Few More...
