Catch Up

Well, it has been a busy last little while, and much has happened in our lives. Our big news, for those who have not yet heard, is that we bought a house. The whole process has been such a miracle and we can really see God's hand in all of it. It has happened rather quickly, so please forgive us if we should have told you in person but didn't. I am still getting over it.
It is in the King's Towne and is a great "starter" house, a 1 1/2 story war home with three bedrooms and even a back yard! It is, in Realtor Speak, a "handy man's dream," "perfect for a visionary," and "a diamond in the rough." In laymen's terms, that means "a real fixer-upper."
So...we found out this past week that since our apartment has been rented we have two weeks to move out (good in that it will save us a month's rent, bad in that it speeds things up even more). We have some renovations - some major, some minor, some cosmetic, some structural - to do at the house before we move in. We have been spending our weekends and some evenings working, trying to get as much done as possible. In God's perfect timing, he has provided a house for us to house-sit for a month in the intermim between our apartment and our (hopefully) completed renovations. It is indeed a busy time, made even busier by adding a very active, very curious six-month old to the mix, and by our ever-present lack of sleep at night, due to the same six-month old.
Personally, I am somewhat struggling with my place in all of this. I feel as though I should be (and want to be) helping out at the house, doing as much as I can. If people are so willing to drive for several hours to help us, surely I should be pulling my own weight. And yet, my role is also to care for Gideon. I have brought him to the house quite a bit, but I am realizing more and more that the dust, the noise, the chemicals, the lack of attention (i.e. being completely ignored), the lack of naps, and the 14+ hour days are hard on him. I am learning that my role may not be to "do" much in the tangible sense of the word. But it is hard.
Having said all that, though, we have been more than blessed with our family and our friends and our community who have been so willing and eager and enthusiastic to help us out, however needed. God is so good!

Yay a house - a home - a blessing indeed. Congratulations!!

Bec remember to cut yourself some slack on the whole renovations bit...the fact that you are the "primary" care giver of Gideon at the present moment (due to some 14 hour days by daddy) I would say you are pulling your weight and more...besides...you need to save your brain power for important things like paint colour and perfect placement (ie - No don't put that there, it needs to go over there).

PS I love the new pictures of Gideon - he truly changes from week to week at this age - keep them coming.

Love to all!!

I'd like to helpfully point out that you really don't have a lot of weight to "pull"!

Building and/or renovating a house is stressful at the best of times, with or without children.

Having a little baby forces you to take time and relax so he can relax - thus making everything right in his little world - so you're doing exactly what you should be doing. You're doing just fine.

Congrats on the house! That's great. And yes, renos are stressful and very busy; we were lucky that we lived close by while it all was going on. It would be so hard to live in! Gideon is a cutie :) It would be neat to see him - I'm out in Port Perry with the kids probably the weekend of March 6; however, it sounds like you are very busy! Take care,
Karen
