Some Days

“Guess what, Daddy? I didn’t go to school today!” G greeted Rod as he walked in the door.
“You didn’t go to school? I hope you learned something anyway,” Rod answered.
Just what did we learn (or re-learn)?
--That even though your morning starts like any other, it can often go terribly different than you anticipate.
--When N comments “G is throwing up!” from the backseat of the van, you should probably listen the first time, even if you have other things on your mind….like trying to get to school on time.
--Throw up is no fun to clean out of a van on a rainy day. Neither is it fun to clean up in the hallway, the bathroom, or the eating area.
--You do get a clean floor out of the deal. It just takes a little longer than normal.
--Sick little boys can be really sweet and cuddly.
--Toddlers like playing in mud. They will find it, and then come to you to show you how much fun it was. Toddlers don’t notice that you just spent a few hours on your hands and knees cleaning the floor. (See above.)
--A quiet 3-year old who is alone in the kitchen may be a recipe for disaster. Even if you leave her alone for a good reason, like putting a muddy toddler in the tub before he dirties your floor (see above).
--A “recipe for disaster” usually involves not following the recipe. In fact, it may mean putting soap as one of the major ingredients in the apple crisp.
--Some days, it is a really, really good thing when your husband comes home from work. Some days, you honestly don’t think you can give anybody anything more of yourself.
--Tomorrow is always a new day.
