Sorry for the lack of updates...life hasn't exactly been "crazy" but it has been a bit different than we thought it would be at the start of last week.
On Monday night, N woke up -repeatedly (about seven times in five hours). Three cheers for Rodney who took the brunt of that one. Long story short, we ended up taking her to the doctor the next morning (they were very kind, and squeezed her in, even though there was no actual appointment available.). After a bit of a wait, we were able to see the doctor, who then referred us to the children's outpatient clinic. The triage nurse saw us right away, did some poking, prodding and testing, and then gave us a bed right away. Along came more nurses, resident, pokes, prods and tests, and then we were sent to get some chest x-rays. In the end, it was confirmed that N has pneumonia.
While it was a bit of a scary diagnosis, I have to say how impressed I was with the health care system that day. We were seen quickly, taken seriously, and given quality care. Everything was as good as it could have been. The other thing for which I am thankful was how quickly the medicine started working. By the next morning, you could hardly tell she was sick. We are still being cautious, but it hasn't been the terrible experience that it could have been.
G has picked up a bit of a cough as well, and we are keeping our eye on him to make sure that it isn't the same thing.
To round things out, I did something - I couldn't say what - to my back, and have been in pain and/or discomfort for the last few days. It is getting *much* better from what it was, but I am still limited. Hooray for healthy backs: they are a pretty important body part.
