Big machines + nine yards of soil + grass seed + big falling branches + a sawzall + a clothesline as a minor victim (later fixed) + wheelbarrows + moving concrete slabs and rocks + a few trips to the waste management facilities + raking + grading + digging + lots of lots and lots of elbow grease = Much improved back yard + happy wife.
To give you an idea of why this is so exciting, here are some before and after pictures of our yard. It is still a work in progress, to be sure, but I am giddy about the work that has been done.
Before:
(Shortly after we bought it, after the snow melted.)
After:
(As of yesterday)
We are still waiting for our grass to grow, but soon enough it will happen (and until then, we don't have to mow it!)

It looks amazing. While the grass is growing, we can use the time to convince Gideon to actually like grass.
Yeah.

Man, that is one nice backyard! It's almost like you have to see it to believe it ;) I can't wait for the grass to grow! Next summer it should be beautiful!!
Good job! Looks great! Not sure who's more thrilled - you & Rod, or your neighbours!

I'm glad to see Rod is wearing appropriate safety equipment as he cuts the tree into smaller pieces.
But the lawn looks fantastic, can't hardly recognize it. While the lawn might look pretty, I've been spending my entire summer trying to kill mine so I don't have to cut it every 3 days, so--really--don't be in a rush for grass. I scalp mine so bad it looks like a golf green and 4 days later it's 3 inches again.

WOW! Can't wait to see it in person. If the previous home-owners tried to find thier place back, they probably wouldn't recognize it. Good thing you married such a handy man!
