It has been a busy summer, as they tend to be, and yet a very good one. In June/July we were very fortunate to be able to take a trip to the great white north to celebrate a friend's wedding. Rod and I left G with both sets of grandparents: our first time to be without him. (Well, not technically true, but eight days is longer than 24 hours.) He did smashingly well (and so did I, thank you for asking) and the grandparents even kicked a few of his bad habits. (Most noticeable, there is no more soother in his life! They couldn’t understand why he kept asking for “juice”…it turns out he wanted his “soos” – ignorance is bliss – and we are very thankful.) Anyway, it was a busy (and cold) time of visiting and preparing, but a wonderful time of God’s beauty in the people we met and reconnected with and in the things that we were able to see.
(I think this last one is my favourite from the whole trip.)
The rest of the summer has not been quite so glamourous, but it, too, has been enjoyable.
Rod continues to work extremely long and tiring days. The heat and humidity have not been kind to physical labourers. He has recently started another job a few evenings a week, so that has been both exciting and exhausting for him. He is a hard worker and it is always nice to see him at the end of the day.
I was originally thinking of getting a summer job, but for various reasons in the end I am being a stay-at-home mom. I am *loving* being able to spend my days with G, and to enjoy him for who he is. He is quite the character, with lots of quirks and some strong-willed-ness thrown in to keep us seeking the Lord for wisdom. I see this time as a blessing to be able to enjoy him and train him.
G continues to grow and amaze us: he is becoming quite the little man. His vocabulary is rapidly increasing and he is amazingly even learning some letters. He loves trucks and diggers, animals, and trying to be like his daddy. He is an active little guy and keeps us on our toes. It is amazing to me how much personality, likes/dislikes and character come hard-wired into little people.
Bumpernickel continues to grow well. We don’t know what gender it is, and I really have no inclination one way or the other; I am stumped. But, it is an extremely active bump – even more so than G was, which has me quite concerned. We are excited to meet the person that it is.
In other news, we have been pursuing renovating our house…changing our 1 ½ story into a two story. With the coming (baby) addition and the condition of the ½ story (not great nor overly-usable) it seems to make the most sense. Last week, after weeks/months of discussions, drawings, and trying to get everything in order, we dropped off our application. We had been hopeful to start in the next few weeks with an old-fashioned roof- raising, but a few comments from city officials have made us a little more aware that it may not be a shoe-in, or even possible at all. The whole process has been much on our minds and has taken a great deal of time, and at this point I am just relieved that we at least handed the papers in. What happens next is not in our hands anymore.
We have also enjoyed some family camping, get-togethers with friends and family, fresh-from-the-garden produce, a day of applesauce making with my mom and oma, and lots of doctor and midwife appointments. Life is full, and we are blessed.

Thanks for the update with lovely photos! You are a beautiful family and I am glad you are enjoying your summer! You are a glowing expectant mother, for sure! I am eager to meet the newest member of your family, but probably not as eager as you are...
