Are You Ready to Listen?

It seems that often the way in which parents discipline their children can be cause for much controversy. It can also be cause of judgement and derision; parents are easily seen as too harsh or too lenient. I will say that I am doing things I didn't think that I would, but also not doing things I thought I would. Different personalities call for different discipline measures; different ages call for different tactics. But enough theory.
One thing that we have started with G in the last few weeks and months - particularly when his attitude is just too much to handle and too disrespectful - is to send him to his room. Originally it was to his bed, but then he started peeing in it - I'm almost positive out of spite. We happened to have a folding chair floating around, so one day, when I just didn't feel like washing his sheets an extra time, I put it smack in the middle of his room, and told him to sit, without moving, until he was ready to listen.
I went back a few minutes later; he was very contrite and told me he would "listen, Mummy."
Ha! It worked. From then on, he dubbed it the Listening Chair. It's almost getting to the point where he *likes* going on it....I think I may have to change tactics again. But I digress.
Today he came up to me and told me that Puppy was hiding; I was supposed to come with him to look. He lead me to his room, and as he opened the door he said, "Puppy, listen Giddy."

Yup, sure enough, Puppy had been sent to the Listening Chair.
