Odds and Ends

The last week or so of teaching has been a large improvement from my last blog (for those of you who were worried). Last week I began to (and continue to) feel noticeably more comfortable and relaxed in the class and with the students. Not to say that I have magically become a better teacher, nor that the issues have suddenly disappeared, but I have become more comfortable in my role and the students have become more comfortable with me. It’s been nice. This week is my last week in practicum, which is bittersweet. I love the school, the staff is excellent and encouraging, and it has been a place of much growth. Perhaps more reflections will follow. But don’t hold your breath.
I gave a history test today. The first question was “What year did the War of 1812 begin?” The sad news is that not everyone got it right. The other sad news is that about half the class was confused by it. The other sad news is that it was the only right answer that some people got.
In other news, I broke three glasses in less than 24 hours. Not bad, considering that we were either out of the house or sleeping for more than 13 of those hours. What can I say? Don’t invite me over if you value your dishes.
