Another Rant

Yup, two in one day.

Two weeks ago, we took G in for his 18 month check-up. Over the course of a little over an hour, the doctor took all his information: his weight and height, she asked diet and development questions, etc. etc. But, when it came time to give his shots, she realized that he was just getting over a cold/fever, so it was not a safe time to give them. She booked an appointment, just for his shots, for two weeks time: i.e. today.
Today, we showed up at the doctor's office right at our appointed time. We waited in the waiting room for well over three-quarters of an hour. For those who know, it is often a difficult thing to keep an active toddler happy, occupied and relatively disturbance-free for such a long time. Finally, we were called to the room. The nurse popped her head in and asked what we were there for, and we told her. About 15 minutes later, another nurse asked the same question. About 10 minutes later, a resident came in, sat down, asked the same question, and disappeared to talk to his attending physician. At this point, G was quite the handful (and our patience was running out, too): the waiting room is one thing: a small doctor's room is quite another after an already long wait. An hour and forty-five minutes after our appointment time - the resident came in to give G his shots.
I am thankful for free health care...but really...it seems a bit of a long wait - especially with someone to occupy.
